10 Best Game Sequels for 2010
Is 2010 going to be the year of the sequel? Most of the time sequels are afterthoughts, put together based on the success of the first title in order to try and squeeze a bit more cash out of you. This is clearly apparent in the movie industry but is still strong within the gaming industry too. This year looks to be different.
We have picked out 10 awesome sequels that are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat this year. These titles have built upon their strengths and fixed previous flaws to provide an awesome gaming experience, one that I am happy to pay for. In no particular order:
Assassin’s Creed 2
Ok, ok… so this launched last year, but I’m still playing it! Yes it’s that awesome. Building on everything that worked well in the first game and adding tons of depth as well as fixing all the flaws, Assassin’s Creed 2 is a must have for any gamer.
God of War 3
The award winning God of War 3 makes it’s debut on the Sony Playstation 3. This game squeezed the last drop of juice out of the PS2 and looked very impressive. Will the same be said about the PS3 sequel? Graphics were only a small part of this epic game, so it’s definitely one for all you PS3 fanboys (and girls.)
Bioshock 2
The first Bioshock provided the most surreal, immersive and detailed game environment that I have ever seen. Being a part of the living and breathing (slightly damp) world of Rapture is awesome. The sequel looks to build on this – adding in Ocean floor walking, new weapons, multiplayer and bad guys. Yes please.
Diablo 3
One of the most anticipated games ever. Enough said. Any gamer that has played Diablo before will know all about the addicting qualities of Blizzards masterpiece. Has anyone finished Diablo only once? Unfortunately the latest on this looks like the release date may be pushed back to 2011. Diablo 3: Totally worth the wait.
Starcraft 2
One of the most epic strategy games of all time. Starcraft revolutionized the RTS genre. The new instalment looks to continue. Hardcore strategy alert, this is one of those games that you always get your ass kicked by some 8 year old… don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Crysis 2
Loads of hype on the first game. The sequel has been fairly quiet to date. I think everyone is scared of what it may do to their finely tuned PC’s. The story is not great but it really is beautiful thanks to the newly developed CryEngine 3.
Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect is a great blend of action and RPG. I would suggest that you pick up the first title before tackling this one. It features an awesome storyline with very strong characters, this is the main reason that I will be getting this sequel asap.
Fable 3
Ahhh… Fable. Hype has always been the downfall of Fable, with the creators over promising and under delivering. If you ignore all the media, Fable is A LOT of fun. It’s Definitely worth the cash. Let’s just hope the new one is a bit longer than the previous games. It looks to have a lot of new features.
Command & Conquer 4
What can I say here? This may be edging towards the “money squeezing” sequel area, but in my opinion there would be a lot of irate C&C fans if the next instalment didn’t hit the shelves. This franchise has stood the test of time and continues to deliver great gaming for all RTS fans. It’s not a must have, but it makes the list none the less.
Yes I know I have missed out tons of great gaming sequels due to launch in 2010, but these are the ones that I am most looking forward to. It would be interesting to see which of these you guys think will be the best?
